training plan

After considering several options I decided to go with: Hal Higdon's Marathon Training Schedule Novice 1 I'm not looking to break any records here, I just want to finish the marathon. On my registration form I put down 6 hours (13:43 pace) for my predicted finish time. If it's slower than that I'm ok with it. The beauty about this particular marathon is they allow runners 8 hours to finish it :)

Since Hal's plan is 18 weeks and there are 19 weeks until the marathon I have duplicated week #1 and am starting this week. I made some other edits to the schedule, mostly swapping Saturday and Sunday some weeks due to previously scheduled road races or personal plans.

Today was then Day #2 of the schedule and it calls for 3 miles. I decided to try a morning run and when I got up I still wanted to run but opted for the treadmill instead of outside. I had a good run and it felt great to have the whole day ahead of me. Later in the afternoon at work I was feeling tired and sore in my shoulder and since I had the free time I scheduled a massage for 5:30. It was an amazing massage, the guy is board certified in orthopedic physical therapy as well as being a massage therapist and he really did a great job! I'm considering going once a week throughout my marathon training. I inquired about getting a discount if I pay for 16 massages ahead of time. They are going to call me back, they needed to speak with another manager.
