consistency

after two consecutive days on the treadmill it was nice to hit the open road again (albeit a hot and humid 84+ degree one!) My goal for this 3-miler was to keep an even pace instead of starting off too fast and trying to hold that fast pace for the remaining 2 miles. I chose 10:30 as my goal for each mile. I didn't want to constantly keep looking at my Garmin while running because I also wanted to focus on my form (relaxed shoulders, elbows in and close to side with a rhythmic/pendulum motion swing of my arms, chin up and eyes ahead, natural (+ some) stride). It felt really good and if the weather was cooler it probably would of been close to perfect. I didn't meet my 10:30 average goal but am quite pleased with the consistency of the pace and really think that is the key to a good run whether long or short. Maybe next time I'll be a little faster on average and that's something to work toward.

Mile 1: 10:42
Mile 2: 10:47
Mile 3: 10:31
Total Miles:  3
Total Time: 31:58
Avg. Mile: 10:40

While in TN little Sloan wanted to give me a silly band and she couldn't find the one that she had in mind. So, we were looking through her ginormous collection of silly bands and I decided on the tortoise because it reminds me of my latest realization about running: slow and steady wins the race. I just may have to wear this silly band on marathon day :)
