Run 2 Overcome 5k

I'm scheduled to run four 5k's and a half marathon during my marathon training. Today was one of those 5k's (I'm trying to do a race a month this year so this fulfills my August race).

Like most races this one was for a good cause (benefiting the Greenville Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center). In addition the company I work for was a sponsor so it was good to be there to represent.

The route was one I haven't raced before but it was familiar territory running through and around Cleveland Park and on the Swamp Rabbit Trail then back into Cleveland Park for the finish.

I went out too fast as usual so held back a bit in mile 2 but felt pretty good so I stayed focused on rhythmic breathing and long strong strides. I kept telling myself to just enjoy this short distance because it'll be perfect training for the longer slower paced training runs ahead in my marathon training.

I finished 31:04 which is my 3rd best finish time out of all the 5k's I've run (35) so, I am quite pleased with this result!
