Turkey Trot 5k/Cross Training

Cross training is on the schedule today and it happened to be the day of the annual Turkey Trot 5k. I registered because I didn't want to break my tradition of participating since this makes year #5. In addition my friend Mary Beth sent out a message asking if anyone wanted to run in honor of her friend Sandy who is currently fighting Leukemia. This race benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We made special bibs to wear on our backs and it was a touching experience and I wish her nothing but the best through this horrible disease.

As for my run I wanted to just ease into it before I picked up the speed, and since we were at the front of the pack I easily got swept up into the momentum and went out faster than I probably should because I was having trouble regulating my breath into the 2nd mile. I calmed myself down and then just tried to keep the rhythm and push on knowing that it was just three, compared to the 18 yesterday!

Mile 1: 9:32

Mile 2: 10:24
Mile 3: 10:14
Mile .1: :39

Total Time: 30:49

Avg. Mile: 10:01

This is my 3rd fastest race of all of my 5k races.
#1: 30:25 (Medina, Ohio July, 2006)
#2: 30:34 (Greenville Tech, Race for Cure Sept. 2006)
#3: 30:49 (Furman, Turkey Trot Nov. 2010)

Post race I won a "door" prize! A $25 Gift Certificate to Go Tri Sports! yay!
